The Legal Framework Governing Foreign Direct Investment: The Case for Korea
This lecture is composed of two parts. The first part touches upon how international law deals with foreign direct investment, and how it differs from the international legal framework on trade. It then looks into contrasting perspectives between capital-importing countries and capital-exporting countries in dealing with foreign direct investment. The second part focuses on the development of Korea’s legal and regulatory regime governing foreign direct investment from the early 1960s to date.
