An election for the Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court was held at the second meeting of the second session of the Assembly of States parties, held on 9 September 2003 (see web cast (archived - forthcoming)). The results of the election were as follows:

Mr. Serge Brammertz (Belgium) was thus elected Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. In a further decision, the Assembly decided that the term of office of the Deputy Prosecutor would run for six years, as recommended by the Prosecutor, and would commence on 3 November 2003.

Background:

The Secretariat of the Assembly of States Parties received a letter, dated 11 August 2003, from the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court transmitting a communication to the President of the Assembly of States Parties containing the Prosecutor's three nominees (Mr. Serge Brammertz (Belgium), Mr. Hassan Bubacarr Jallow (The Gambia) and Mr. Vladimir Tochilovsky (Ukraine)) for the post of Deputy-Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, pursuant to article 42, paragraph 4 of the Rome Statute.
