On 25 and 26 May 2017, the United Nations Legal Counsel, Mr. Serpa Soares, chaired the annual meeting of the network of the Legal Advisers of the Specialized, Related and other Organizations of the UN System. The meetings of the Legal Networks provide an opportunity for discussion of legal issues of common interest and concern to the Legal Advisers of the participating entities. They are held to improve coordination and communication among the Legal Advisers and to promote system-wide legal coherence. The meetings also provide the Legal Counsel with an important opportunity to brief the Members of the Networks on current legal issues facing the Organization. This year's meeting was hosted by the Legal Adviser to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Mr. John Augustin, and was held at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal, Canada. Mr. Ivan Galan, Senior Director at ICAO, welcomed the members of the network on behalf of the Secretary-General of ICAO. Topics on this year's agenda included updates and discussions on the latest jurisprudence of the United Nations Dispute and Appeals Tribunals, as well as the latest trends and developments with regard to the respect of the Organization's privileges and immunities. The United Nations Legal Counsel briefed the meeting on the latest developments regarding international criminal justice and on the issue of preventing and responding to sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA)
