Legal Counsel participated in the 18th Conference of International Investigators

13 October 2017

In October, the Office of Legal Affairs participated in the "18th Conference of International Investigators", bringing together investigative entities from the United Nations system as well as other inter-governmental or regional entities. Participation in this conference gave OLA an opportunity to highlight its collaboration with various investigative entities of the United Nations, including its Funds and programmes.

As part of the conference Mr. Miguel de Serpa Soares, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel chaired a panel discussion on the topic of Legal Process in International Investigations, where he discussed OLA's use of investigation reports within the internal disciplinary process, as well as in the context of judicial cooperation with national authorities. The panel included the head of the Legal Advice Unit, OLAF, and judges from national jurisdictions and the UNDT. Mr. Andreas Vaagt, Principal Legal Officer, took part in another panel which discussed cooperation between the United Nations and national authorities.
