United Nations International Law Seminar for Arab States:

The United Nations Legal Counsel, Mr. de Serpa Soares, and the Permanent Representative of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Ambassador Amr Abdellatif Aboulatta, on 8 July signed the host country agreement between the United Nations and Egypt regarding the first United Nations International Law Seminar for Arab States. The Seminar will be organized by the Office of Legal Affairs in cooperation with Egypt and the League of Arab States and will be held from 15 to 19 November 2015 in Cairo. The Seminar will include lectures on International Law, including Self-Determination in International Law, International Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law and International Criminal Law. The Seminar will contribute towards a better understanding of international law as a means of strengthening international peace and security and promoting friendly relations and cooperation among States under the United Nations Programme of Assistance in the Teaching, Study, Dissemination and Wider Appreciation of International Law. The organization of a seminar on international law for Arab States is an idea that originally arose in April 2014 in Cairo during a meeting between the Legal Counsel, Mr. Serpa Soares, and the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, H.E. Dr. Nabil El-Araby, who is a very distinguished international lawyer and diplomat with close ties to the Office of Legal Affairs.
