The International Law Commission
and Community Interests
The lecture looks at ways in which community interests have been recognized and developed by the International Law Commission in some areas of international law. The focus is on certain primary rules, as they have been proposed by the Commission, and at their relevance for the recognition of community interests in international law. The lecture conclude with some reflections on whether the picture which emerges supports a progress story of “from self-interest to community interest,” or whether continuity prevails.
