  • Election of officers
    • The Commission elected Mr. Enrique Candioti (Argentina) as its Chair, Mr. Choung II Chee (Republic of Korea) as the Second Vice-Chair, Mr. James L. Kateka (United Republic of Tanzania) as Chair of the Drafting Committee, and Mr. William Mansfield (New Zealand) as Rapporteur. The Commission further decided to defer the election of the First Vice-Chair, pending the outcome of the filling of the casual vacancies.
  • Adoption of the agenda
    • The Commission adopted its provisional agenda (A/CN.4/528)
  • Organization of work
    • The Commission adopted a work plan for the first two weeks of its current session.
  • Filling of casual vacancies
    • The Commission elected Mr. Roman A. Kolodkin (Russian Federation), Mr. Constantin P. Economides (Greece) and Mr. Teodor V. Melescanu (Romania) to fill the casual vacancies in the Commission's membership arising from the death of Mr. Valery Kuznetzov (Russian Federation) and the election of Mr. Bruno Simma (Germany) and Mr. Peter Tomka (Slovakia) to the International Court of Justice.
